Tourism visiting Puerto Penasco, and those living here, can be certain that the sea and the city's beaches are maintaining a state of cleanliness and are free from pollution that would put the health of bathers at risk. This was recently reported by Roberto Gutirrez, head of the Unit of Control and Sanitary Regulation. Gutirrez indicated that weekly monitoring of the water quality at Puerto Penascos principal beaches is working to certify them as clean beaches.
The results of the samples, which are taken each Thursday, show that the sea water of Puerto Penasco is free from polluting contaminants. He detailed that as part of the program they have taken water samples from Playa Encanto, Playa Bonita and Sandy Beach, which are among the most frequented areas. These tests have proven to be clean and show the beaches are in conditions to be used and do not present problems for people looking to enjoy the sea.
Gutierrez indicated that pools around the city are also in good conditions and do not represent problems of any kind for people wishing to use them. Gutierrez reiterated that they are maintaining united efforts with the municipal and federal government, through the committee of clean beaches, in order to assure that this area has documentation to accredit clean coastal and beach areas.
The head of Sanitary Regulation affirmed that tese results are a strong motive for people to be aware and strive to maintain the beaches as clean as possible, because sustaining the sea clean of pollution depends on all of us. He acknowledged that there is sill not an adequate widespread culture concerning care for the beaches. However, he noted, now is the right time to work on awareness so that the city's beaches and surrounding sea remain free of polluting agents that put people's health, as well as marine flora and fauna, at risk.
